You just received a beautiful bouquet of flowers...
Flowers are very delicate and are temperamental to the way they are cared for.
There are many factors that can affect their life span.
Following these tips will ensure long lasting flowers
1. Once you receive your bouquet, the first step is to ensure that the container (vase) is clean.
2. Fill your container with clean water and ensure that your water temperature is not hot. Then apply flower food that may have been included with your your bouquet.
3. After 2-3 days refresh the water and cut the stems on an angle, approximately half of an inch of the stem. Then place the flowers into a vase with water .
If you have floral food left over you can add some into your water ,this will prevent bacteria from formulating .*Floral food is made with a bactericide that keeps the water fresh for a day or two longer.
4. Repeat theses steps every 2-3 days . If you don't have floral food don't fret Most important is that the water is clean.
Keeping your water clean and clear of foliage will prevent bacteria from growing.
5. Keep your flowers away from heat and bright sunlight. This will speed up the aging process. (keep flowers away from window sills)
Instead look for a cooler darker space away from warm direct sunlight.
6.Keep your fresh flowers away from ripening fruits and vegetables.
Ripening fruits give off an odourless gas called ethylene. This gas is harmless to people but deadly for flowers.
Once your flowers are exposed to this gas the flowers begin to age and die quickly allowing the flowers to lose its petals.
Flowers are a beautiful gift to receive however they do require proper care and handling to sustain its life span.
